Dr Tafline Murnane is a Senior Test Consultant for K. J. Ross & Associates in Melbourne, Australia. Tafline focuses her work primarily in the areas of test management, test strategy development, risk-based testing, test process improvement and software testing education and mentoring. Tafline is a co-editor of the new ISO/IEC 29119 Software Testing standard, holds a PhD in Software Testing from La Trobe University and is a member of Standards Australia committee IT-15 Software & Systems Engineering and ISO/IEC WG26 Software Testing. Tafline is a regular presenter at national and international conferences on software testing.

Key projects in which Tafline has been involved since joining K. J. Ross & Associates include:
  • Test management at City West Water for the Development Management Activity System
  • Test management at Tabcorp for the development of a test simulator
  • Test strategy formulation for identity management at Centrelink and various projects at City West Water
  • Test process improvement at Westpac, National Australia Bank, Centrelink and Open Universities Australia
  • Test mentoring and training at Open Universities Australia and a variety of public software testing training courses
  • Safety critical systems auditor of a railway train order system against EN50128 Railway Applications – Communications, Signalling and Processing Systems – Software for Railway Control and Protection
Tafline has previously worked as a software developer for various consulting companies, in the areas of software design, development and testing. She has had significant involvement in the academic side of testing, having recently completed a PhD in software testing at La Trobe University, and previously graduating with a Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering with Honours from La Trobe University, focussing primarily on software testing and reliability in her final year. Tafline has also worked as a lecturer and tutor of various software testing and development subjects at La Trobe University. Tafline has also been invovled with conducting industry-wide surveys that look at the software testing practices of organisations throughout Australia, one of which was carried out in conjunction with Swinburne University and funded by the Australian Computer Society.
